Mikel Arteta was only 37 years old when he became head coach of Arsenal in December 2019, making him the youngest manager in the Premier League at the time. Immediately after retiring as a professional footballer, he was appointed assistant coach at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola. Midway through the 2019/2020 season, he took over at Arsenal, where he went on to win the FA Cup in his very first season.
After two difficult seasons, he eventually led Arsenal back into the top three, finishing second in the league in recent years. In the 2024/2025 season, he finally managed to finish above eternal rivals Manchester City, but Arne Slot’s Liverpool proved too strong.
Arteta is once again a Spanish coach well worth studying.
